From September 1, 2026, two charges no longer appear on a buyer’s order at Sport Subaru South in Orlando: the $995 dealer documentation fee and the $445 pre-delivery service charge. That is $1,440 removed from every new Subaru and every pre-owned vehicle we sell.
One dealer charge remains on the sheet: a $395 electronic registration and filing fee. It is named here, in full, before you ask. A shorter list of charges is only meaningful if you can trust the list to be complete.
A buyer’s order is a list. Vehicle price, trade allowance, taxes, government fees, dealer fees, and whatever else the dealership has decided belongs there. Most of the frustration in buying a car comes from the last category, because it is the one nobody can predict before arriving.
We shortened it. The documentation fee and the pre-delivery service charge are no longer on the form. We did not reduce them, and they are not something to ask for or negotiate. We took them off. The pre-delivery inspection still happens on every Subaru we deliver; we have simply stopped issuing a separate invoice for it.
This applies to every vehicle we retail, from a new Subaru Outback to a pre-owned Crosstrek with 60,000 miles on it. There is no qualifying purchase and no expiration.

That is $1,440 less in dealer-imposed documentation and pre-delivery charges on every new Subaru and pre-owned vehicle.
Amounts above are dealer charges only. State and local sales tax and the government charges for tag, title and registration are additional and are set by the State of Florida.
A $395 electronic registration and filing fee remains. Florida runs an Electronic Filing System through which authorized dealers submit title and registration transactions directly to the state, with the county tax collector approving them. That is why your tag is handled before you leave rather than added to your weekend. This fee covers that processing.
It belongs to us, not to the state. Florida’s administrative code requires a fee like this to be disclosed separately and expressly prohibits a dealer from presenting it as a government charge. We have given it its own line in the table above for exactly that reason.
Florida sales tax and the actual government charges for tag, title and registration are separate again, set by the state and by Orange County. Those apply everywhere and cannot be removed by any dealership.
Florida does not cap dealer documentation fees. A handful of states do, among them California, Oregon, Arkansas and West Virginia, and in those states the charge stays modest. Where there is no ceiling, it climbs. Edmunds research puts Florida’s median documentation fee at roughly $899, tied with Virginia for the highest in the United States.1
Ours is $0. We would rather earn your business with the service you get here and the Subaru you drive away in. A documentation fee has never convinced anyone to buy. It showed up at the end of the paperwork, one more hurdle in front of a decision the customer had already made.
